Winter Wonderland

Small freezing crystals fall from the sky, blanketing the earth in a soft white snow. Far away lays a land that goes by the name “Winter Wonderland” somewhere different than everything else in the whole world, glistening white snow, falling from the dark grey sky, creating layers, making the front yard look wonderful, and the trees appearance is never a problem. The dark branches contrast the white snow while the rooftops are covered with a sheet of glistening crystal making them sparkle.

The wind has a piercing feeling beautiful being far, but painful when it's around you, the sun is barely out and the sky soon becomes a light grey. But when the soft snow begins to fall, it transforms to a baby's blanket across the land, it covers everything, makes everything so bright and alive. I stood there watching families under blankets in one bed and kids playing around with snow with their smile never leaving their face, and suddenly a tear ran down my face…

I tried to distract myself by looking out the window and watched the little specks of snow float till they reached the ground, the smell of winter crisp air filled the sky around that even fire can’t erase it away…I decided to grab my coat and go outside to have a glimpse at life in my own eyes, as I stepped on the snow I felt it crackle below my feet leaving my personal imprint on the world. It began to swirl around me as if I were dancing along with it. Everyone around me was bundled up from head to toe, wrapped in scarves and coats, hands with mittens and toes with boots. The children were playing everywhere; building snowmen, fighting with snowballs, and making snow angels across the new land. The sound of laughter, screams, and cheers filled the air with a pleasant mixture.

Deep in the crowd a little girl caught my eyes, walking in her mother’s hand and trying to catch snowflakes before they reach the ground, she wore the exact same dress as the one buried somewhere in my closet and had a heart full of innocence.

A smile was drown on my face as soon as I recognized her, I jumped to the rooftop and dangled my hands to the air like I used to do as a little girl, the wind started taking things into action and it sent my hair flowing behind me, it was the closest thing I had to flying. I sat down looking at the sky and feeling the weight of the world being removed from my shoulders.

Coming back to reality I looked down at the girl and smiled back thanking her for bringing me to life, for re-uniting me with the innocence that was corrupted by the universe, and it’s like she understood me, she winked and vanished in the air, my breath turned to ice as I made my way back to my window. I took my cup of hot chocolate, my favorite book and I sat down next to the fire forgetting everything about life and hopping inside one of my old fairytales. Winter Wonderland is the time of laughs, cheers, tears, screams and most importantly memories. It's always remembered never forgotten.
